THE GOAL of the 521 project is two-fold.
FIRST, preserve a piece of history and pay tribute to the men who proudly served the Noblesville community before us.
SECOND, to restore 521 to its original condition and be a showpiece for the Firefighters and the City of Noblesville.
OLD ENGINE 521 was purchased by the The Noblesville Fire Department in 1935.
521 was the old civil defense number given to it by the government. It was the second motorized apparatus in the city and served as a front running engine until 1957 when it was moved to reserve status. It was taken out of service completely in 1973 and sold at the City auction in 1985 for $5,000.
In 2005, it was purchased by the Noblesville Professional Firefighters Local 4416. It had retained all of its original equipment and still had a functioning pump. The price of the purchase was $10,000. The estimated value of the equipment alone was $12,000.
These firefighters saw the unique opportunity to not only purchase an antique fire engine, but to purchase one that had actually served our city with all of its original equipment.
