The NPA keeps a Most Endangered List in order to monitor structures throughout Noblesville that are in danger of demolition, structural damage, a hazard or concern to the public. We develop this list with input from NPA and community members. The list is intended to raise awareness of historic or significant properties which could be lost or demolished and to assist with keeping Noblesville’s neighborhoods.
An ‘endangered structure’ is a significant historic structure or one which contributes to the fabric of a historic area that is in danger of destruction by neglect, demolition or misuse which may significantly and negatively impact the community.
We look for any the following criteria when developing this list:
- Is it vacant for more than a year?
- Is it not owner/occupied?
- Is the yard overgrown and not maintained?
- Are trash or vermin present
- Is it structurally unsafe?
- Have there been reports of misuse of the property (criminal activity, trespassing, etc.)?
- It is publicly slated/known to face demolishment/misuse?
- Pursue a meeting with the owner
- Offer assistance or adaptive reuse ideas to owner
- Education the membership and media on the significance of the historic property
