Josiah K. Durfee Award

Josiah K. Durfee’s architectural and engineering talents were applied to a diverse collection of properties, many of which remain today. His notable accomplishments include Potter’s Covered Bridge and the Model Mill, both of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Josiah Durfee Award is given at the discretion of the NPA’s Board of Directors on behalf of the NPA membership to the local citizen or organization that has made the most significant positive contribution to NPA’s mission. Outstanding achievement in historic preservation may be a single event or a cumulative contribution over several years.

Neighborhood Award

Supports efforts to “reclaim” Old Town neighborhoods for residential use, enhancing the rich quality of life in Old Town. It may be given to a property owner in Noblesville who converts a qualifying property from commercial zoning or multi-unit rental use to zoning appropriate for a single-family occupied home, for example, or it may be fore notable improvements within an area or district. NPA will endeavor to provide, but does not guarantee, funding to offset some of the associated costs. A qualifying property must be suitable for residential use, at least 50 years old and not have been substantially altered from its original appearance or in the process of being restored to its original appearance.

Exterior Rehabilitation

Presented for the most impressive exterior restoration project in Old Town each year. Criteria: The degree and quality of improvement from the “before” to the “after” stage of the project is the primary consideration. Appropriate adherence to the US Department of the Interior restoration standards will also be a factor in selecting the recipient. If the project also involves the conversion of an Old Town residence to single-family use from commercial or multi-unit rental, this will positively impact the selection process. Support of local suppliers and contractors may be a positive factor in the selection process.

Interior Rehabilitation

Presented for the most impressive interior restoration project in Old town Noblesville. The degree and quality of improvement from the “before” to the “after” state of the project is the primary consideration. Appropriate adherence to U.S. Department of the Interiors restoration standards will be a factor in selecting the recipient. If the project also involves conversion of an Old Town residence to single use from commercial or multi-unit rental, this will positively impact. Support of local suppliers and contractors also may be a positive factor in the selection process.
